What are the Cataract Surgery risks?
Because cataract surgery is an operation on your eyes, there will be some risks to the eyes and the vision, which we will discuss at your first appointment.
Statistically speaking, approximately one in a hundred operations result in someone’s vision being worse than it currently is. More serious risks that you need to know about include severe infection or a bleed. There is a very small chance that you could lose vision from the surgery. That risk runs at one in a thousand, so it is very rare.
While it’s important to be aware of cataract surgery risks, it’s also good to remind yourself of the many benefits. The vast majority of patients live freer, richer and fuller lives after cataract surgery.
