How much does private cataract surgery cost in the UK?

For many people, the thought of eye surgery is a scary proposition. But for those who are dealing with a cataract eye condition, surgery may be the best option. Cataracts are a common condition that usually affects older adults. They occur when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, which can lead to vision problems.

The NHS covers cataract surgery. But, there are some disadvantages to it. These include long waits and mainly monofocal lens options.

You may be wondering, “How much does it cost to have cataracts done privately?” if you are looking for an alternative.

The cost of private cataract surgery in the UK can vary. It depends on factors like the clinic you choose and if you have health insurance. That being said, most people can expect to pay a total cost between £2,000 and £4,000 per eye for private cataract surgery.

What are the benefits of private cataract surgery?

There are a few benefits of going private for cataract surgery.

Choose your surgeon

First, you may be able to choose your own surgeon and hospital. This can be important if you have a preference or if you want to be sure that you’re getting the best possible care.

Skip the NHS waiting list

Second, you may be able to get treatment faster by skipping the NHS waiting list. This can be important if your vision or lifestyle are severely affected by cataracts and you want to have the surgery as soon as possible.

Take advantage of better technology

Third, you’ll benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and lenses. We use the latest technology and equipment available to ensure that your surgery is performed with the utmost precision.

Choose the best lens for your needs

A private cataract operation also gives you a choice. You can get multifocal, trifocal, or EDoF lenses. Multifocal, trifocal, and EDoF lenses are all types of intraocular lenses (IOLs). They can be used during cataract surgery. Furthermore, all of these lenses come in toric versions. Toric lenses correct astigmatism. After your eye tests at your first consultation, your eye surgeon will give you a personalized treatment plan.

The point is that, after premium cataract surgery, you can be mostly free of glasses and contacts. In contrast, you’ll need to keep wearing glasses or contacts after NHS cataract surgery.

Financing options are available

If you lack private health insurance, a few options can help you pay for standard or premium cataract surgery. At my practice, we believe everybody deserves to have fantastic vision. If you don’t, you shouldn’t be expected to waste any more precious time saving for it, or causing yourself financial set-backs. Depending on the eye hospital of your treatment, we offer financing options for cataract surgery from £49 per month.

The decision of whether or not to have private treatment is a personal one.

Some people feel that it is worth paying for private treatment so that they can have their surgery done more quickly than if they were to wait for an NHS appointment.

Many patients are not aware of the option to get their cataracts removed while gaining freedom from glasses without an additional surgery needed – and regret not exploring their options earlier.

How much do cataract surgery and premium cataract surgery cost?

The cost can vary depending on where you are and who you choose to see. Each hospital has its own set prices; depending upon whether you have a standard lens, standard cataract surgery or premium lens, the price does vary a little. Private cataract surgery costs in the UK typically range from £2,000 to £4,000 per eye. However, there are payment plans available. We’ll be able to discuss that in greater detail at your consultation. Everything will be confirmed and agreed upon with you in advance so that you know what’s included when you take that step with us.
